Research Cell for Studies in Education Policy, Planning and Governance (RSEPPG) in Telangana State at the Centre for Economic and Social Studies (CESS) is set up in July 2020 with the support of Telangana State Council for Higher Education (TSCHE). The predominant objective of the Research Cell on Education(RSEPPG) is to comprehensively study the gamut of issues and challenges in the education system/sector at all levels in a holistic perspective while focusing on higher education in the state and in the country. Research studies are to be thematically organized around five dimensions or foundational pillars of education system: Access, Quality, Equity, Affordability and Accountability. The impact of state policy, funding, regulatory framework, educational standards and governance on achieving these five dimensions of education system would be the focus of research studies. The Research Cell while providing policy inputs and support derived from evidence-based policy-oriented research output, assists the TSCHEand thereby the Telangana State Government in their endeavor for educational development in the state.

Profile

Venkatanarayana Motkuri, PhD, is a post-graduate in Economics and Education and holds M.Phil and Ph.D. in economics (PhD is from JNU, New Delhi through CDS, Trivandrum). He has diverse research experience of working for national (such as CESS, NIRDPR, IHD, CII, Sigma Consulting and others) as well as international organizations (The World Bank, DFID, Oxford University) for different research studies/projects. Along with two edited volumes to his credit,he has more than thirty publications in reputed national and international journals and chapters in edited volumes. The latest edited volume is Adivasis in India (2016), published by Bloomsbury India. His research work is published in journals such as Agricultural Systems (Elsevier), Water Conservancy, EPW, Journal of Educational Planning and Administration,Millennial Asia, IASSI Quarterly,Indian Economic Journal, and Indian Journal of Human Development.He has published research papers on adult literacy, educational deprivation of children, labour and employment including that of women and youth, workforce in healthcare sector, and on pharmaceutical industry and its regulations.His areas of interests are: Economics of Education, along with the domain of Human Development focusing on education, health, human and social capital. Employment/labour, poverty and inequality, agriculture and climate change, regional disparities, development of marginalized and poor, social policy and affirmative action are other research areas.

  1. Organized a Discussion on National Education Policy on 4th August 2020 along with Telangana State Council for Higher Education.
  2. Organized Webinar on National Education Policy and its Implications to School education and Higher Education on 4th September 2020 with CESS faculty and research scholars.
