Dr.B.Suresh Reddy is an Associate professor in the Division for Sustainable Development Studies (DSDS) at the Centre for Economic and Social Studies (CESS), Hyderabad. He did his Ph.D in Development studies (Sociology) from CESS and M.Sc (Ag.) in Agricultural Extension from Andhra Pradesh Agricultural University, Rajendranagar. Qualified UGC-NET (Lectureship) in 1995. He has an experience of more than 25 years and served in various capacities as Agricultural Extension Scientist (in ICAR-Krishi Vigyan Kendra run by internationally well known Deccan Development Society at Medak district), Freelance Researcher/Consultant (with several international agencies such as ODI, University of Greenwich-U.K, University of Southampton-U.K, International Institute of Environment and Development-UK and Humboldt University, Berlin) and as an Academic Researcher at CESS since June 2008. His major research interests include: livelihoods, sustainable agriculture,organic farming, soil fertility management, climate change, environment, participatory research and community development, access and control of women over natural resources management. His PhD topic was “Soil Fertility Management in Semi-Arid Regions: The Socio-Cultural, Economic and Livelihood Dimensions of Farmers’ Practices- A case of Andhra Pradesh”. He was the Principal investigator/lead researcher for the recently completed five research studies at CESS. His recent publications include i) “Prospects of Organic Farming” in the edited book on “Pesticide Residue in Foods” (2017) published by Springer International, New york. ii)“Soil Fertility Management in Semi-arid Regions: The Socio-cultural, Economic and Livelihood Dimensions of Farmers’ Practices- A case of Andhra Pradesh” (2016), published by Springer India iii) authored a paper (2015) on“Biofuels production through food and fodder crops: Is it a viable option for sustainable energy security? Reflections from field in the Indian State of Madhya Pradesh”(Jointly). Springer publications(Special edition) Journal of Decision and iv) “Dynamics of Soil Fertility Management Practices in Semi-Arid Regions – An Empirical Analysis: A Case of Andhra Pradesh” in Economic and Political Weekly(2011). He has to his credit 5 Monographs, 8 working papers and more than 40 national and international publications. Also developed literature for neo-literate farmers (in telugu vernacular) on issues of Soil fertility management.
Major interest is in livelihoods of marginal communities, sustainable agriculture, Soil fertility management, organic farming climate change, environment, participatory research and community development, access and control of women over natural resources management.
