SPSS / STATA Workshop - Centre for Economic and Social Studies, Hyderabad
spss / stata workshop

CESS-DGS organised a five-day workshop on SPSS/STATA from 29 June to 03 July 2026. The workshop attracted research scholars from various universities across India and aimed to strengthen their analytical and data analysis skills through comprehensive training in statistical software tools.

The inaugural session was held on 29 June 2026. Welcoming the participants, Prof. Jeena T. Srinivasan, Dean, DGS, provided an overview of the workshop, outlining its objectives and emphasising the importance of statistical software in contemporary social science research. Prof. E. Revathi, Director, CESS, inaugurated the workshop and highlighted the growing significance of analytical tools such as SPSS and Stata in conducting rigorous empirical research.

The technical sessions were conducted by expert resource persons—Dr. M. Venkatanarayana, Dr. P. Aparna, and Dr. Jadhav Chakradhar—who provided intensive training on the theoretical foundations and practical applications of SPSS and Stata. Participants received hands-on experience in data management, data cleaning, descriptive and inferential statistical analysis, and the interpretation of research findings using real-world datasets. The workshop adopted a practice-oriented approach, enabling participants to apply statistical techniques under expert guidance.

The workshop concluded with a valedictory session on 03 July 2026. Prof. Jeena T. Srinivasan, Dean, DGS, and Dr. J. Srinivas, Academic Coordinator, DGS, along with faculty, presented the certificates to the participants who successfully completed the programme.

In her valedictory address, Prof. Jeena T. Srinivasan appreciated the scholars’ enthusiastic participation and active engagement throughout the workshop. She highlighted the importance of such tools SPSS and Stata, in enabling researchers to undertake robust data analysis and produce high-quality research outcomes. She also emphasised the importance of regularly applying these tools in research so that participants retain and effectively utilise the skills acquired during the workshop. Dr. J. Srinivas encouraged the participants to integrate the analytical techniques learned during the workshop into their ongoing and future research, particularly in thesis preparation and empirical investigations.

The participants expressed their appreciation for the workshop, noting that it significantly enhanced their understanding of statistical analysis and strengthened their confidence in using SPSS and Stata for research. They particularly appreciated the individual guidance provided by the resource persons during the practical sessions, which enabled them to clarify concepts and develop hands-on proficiency.

Senior Research Scholars of CESS actively volunteered throughout the programme, assisting the resource persons during the practical sessions and contributing to the smooth and successful conduct of the workshop. The programme concluded with a formal vote of thanks delivered by Dr. J. Srinivas.
