- Brief Profile
Professor Amar Yumnam got his Ph. D. in 1986 from the Centre of Advanced Study in Economics of the University of Mumbai. His main focus interests centre around Development Issues which encompass Contextual Approaches, Institutional Economics, New Economic Geography and Constitutional Political Economy. With more than Four Decades of Teaching, he has produced more than a dozen Doctoral scholars. In Manipur University, he had been, besides a Professor in Economics, Dean of Social Sciences School, Head of Department, Directors of Research Centres and instrumental in establishing the Department of South East Asian Studies. He retired from Manipur University in January 2021 as a Vice-Chancellor (I/C) on attaining the age of 65 years. Enjoys working in a team and lead the team towards meaningful performance. Has a rich network of international scholars. Committed to endeavouring to make the learning and teaching process internationally relevant. Have a large social space as involved in understanding and articulating the socio-economic and development related issues for more than thirty years in both print and electronic media. Was a Senior Fulbright Scholar during 2006-7 at the University of Southern California, Los Angeles. Exchange Scholar to France and Russia. Have been to countries in Europe, South East and East Asia on various academic programmes. Have been involved in many national and international projects including as a Consultant to a Roads Project of the World Bank during 1999-2001.
