22nd IASSI Annual Conference

Welcome to the 22nd Annual Conference of the Indian Association of Social Science Institutions (IASSI), a distinguished gathering dedicated to the advancement of social science research and education in India. This year’s Conference is set for 2-4 Nov 2023 at CESS, Hyderabad. We are privileged to have Professor S. Mahendra Dev as Conference President, Professor E. Revathi as Organising Committee Chairperson and Dr B. Suresh Reddy as Organising Secretary. More details at www.iassi.org.

The Conference focuses on three themes

Sustainable-Development-scaled

Sustainable Development

Drawing inspiration from the Brundtland Report, the Conference assesses India's progress towards the UN's Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). With an acute focus on sustainable growth, equity, and the unique challenges India faces, discussions will also spotlight the SDG India Index's findings and regional disparities in achieving these goals.

Urbanisation-and-development-scaled

Urbanization and Development

As India witnesses rapid urban migration, the Conference will discuss the complexities of its urban growth trajectory. Evaluating patterns, challenges, and the role of governmental initiatives like the Smart Cities Mission, the theme seeks to decode the urban-rural dynamics and their implications.

Women-Empowerment-scaled

Women Empowerment

Given the evolution of gender-centric development since the 1980s, the discussions will examine the strides and stumbles in women empowerment in India, underpinned by state-led projects such as the community-based social mobilisation of women and initiatives such as Beti Bachao Beti Padhao and the broader context of the SDGs.

Join us to engage in key themes and understand their significance for India’s socio-economic framework
