His current research focuses on medical tourism, water
and sanitation and tribal issues. 1 Earlier he worked at HCM Rajasthan Institute of Public
Administration and Indian Institute of Health Management Institute, Jaipur. He has 25 years
of research experience in the fields of health care, health insurance, NGOs, rural
development, tribal development etc. He has published articles in professional journals. He
has co-edited (with Prof. S. Mahendra Dev) two books: India: Some Aspects of Economic and
Social Development; and India’s Development: Social and Economic Disparities. He was the
Principle Coordinator for the recently concluded project, “Study on Water and Sanitation
Programmes and Health Status of Communities: A Study of Three States, Madhya Pradesh,
Odisha and Andhra Pradesh” and “Medical Tourism in Three Metropolitan Cities:
Hyderabad, Chennai and Mumbai.
K S Babu is Professor at Centre for Economic and Social Studies, Hyderabad. He
has M.A. in Anthropology from Andhra University, Vishakhapatnam and Ph.D from
University of Delhi, Delhi.
