Prof C.H. Hanumantha Rao (b1929) obtained MA degree in economics from Osmania University. He was greatly influenced by teachers of the stature of Professors VKRV Rao and AM Khusro. He obtained Ph D in economics from Delhi University. He joined the Institute for Economic Growth (IEG) in 1961 and became its director in 1976. He also worked as a post-doctoral fellow at the department of economics, University of Chicago, during 1966-67. He supervised six scholars for their PhD theses submitted to the University of Delhi.
